Some Pool Fun with Connor April 22, 2014

My son and I decided to play around with the GoPro while at a friends house. We had a lot of fun jumping around and at one point left the GoPro at the bottom of the pool. Those are probably my favorite scenes.

The Sandbar in Kaneohe Bay April 7, 2014

The Sandbar in Kaneohe Bay from Christian Gehrke on Vimeo. We spent the day with friends who paddle for the Na Koa Lani crew (http://nakoalani.org/) in Kaneohe. We spent the morning enjoying the amazing sandbar that has formed in the Kaneohe Bay. What an amazing day. All the footage, both videos and still shots, were taken with the GoPro H3. The video was set at 120 frames per second at 720p HD quality.

Tool: Responsive.is December 31, 2013

I just came across a simple little tool called Responsive.is that is web based and allows you to enter any URL and preview the site from different device dimensions. Sure there are developer tools you can install to do the same thing or just resize the browser (as long as you’re not using IE) http://responsive.is Basically you enter any URL at the top and below you will see a live render or preview of that URL. On the right of…

Lanikai Ridge Hike Loop December 30, 2013

We recently decided to take a hike near our house and traveled up the back side of a ridge in Kailua that ended in Lanikai. We took a few photos that turned out really nice. I also created a quick video clip with the GoPro camera to capture some of the key points of the journey. All in all the Lanikai Ridge Hike Loop trail is a wonderful hike.

GoPro Slow Motion Beach Video December 30, 2013

I have recently been given a GoPro (http://gopro.com/) camera as a Christmas gift and have absolutely fallen in love with it. The ability to record HD video at 120 frames per second is just awesome. The kids and I have been messing around with it and have already captured some amazing footage. The version we have been using is the Hero+ 3 Black Edition and has the ability to record video at 4k but I have been happy enough with…

App: SloPro – Super Slow Motion November 18, 2013

When the iPhone 5S came out one feature that really caught my attention was the addition of slow motion inside the video settings. I remember being really upset when Apple upgraded the iMove application years ago and removed the proper smooth slow motion settings that had been available for years. It meant I had to open Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere in order to get a proper slow motion effect. Here you can see some examples of the built…

Oahu Panoramas November 18, 2013

It’s been a while since I posted anything here and I thought I would share some recent panoramas I have taken from the windward side of Oahu. I hope to get back into sharing content here again very soon. All photos were taken with an iphone 5 and using the default pano feature built into the iphone.

Every 3 years Red Bull hosts a photography competition called RedBull Illume Image Quest. The Red Bull Illume Image Quest is a specialist contest showcasing and celebrating the very best in photography of extreme sports from around the globe (http://www.redbullillume.com/). This year one of the more interesting categories is called “Sequence” and these provide a sense of motion within a still photograph. These are pretty amazing to look at. The image below of the biker jumping off the cliff actually…

The Underwater Project by Mark Tipple June 21, 2013

I have seen these photos before but never knew the story behind them or who took them until now. Thanks to an article written in Wired Magazine by Alex Washburn I now know the full story and location. I remember seeing these and getting butterflies in my stomach as I remembered being back on Oahu, playing in the surf myself. The photos in The Underwater Project are not only beautiful but also unique in the way they convey the power…
