DJI Matrice 200 Series August 18, 2018
Recently I wrote about a company in Ireland that is using drone technology to help save lives. As a result of learning about this company and their partnership with DJI, I came across a new line of drones released by DJI called the Matrice 200 series.
Not only is this new drone series fully water resistant (IP43 Level) and capable of flying in heavy winds but it can also carry up to 2 kilograms (over 4.4 LBS).
Another feature that has really caught my eye is that both thermal and infrared cameras can be used with this drone. Allowing pilots to see in the dark or even in the fog and rain.
DJI Matrice 200 is compatible with the DJI Zenmuse X4S, DJI Zenmuse X5S, DJI Zenmuse Z30 and DJI Zenmuse XT cameras.
Here is a list of other features and specifications for the Matrice 200 series:
- 38 Minute Flight Time
- Operational Temperatures -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)/li>
- FPV Camera/li>
- Downward Gimbal Mount/li>
- Obstacle Sensing/li>
- Maximum Speed: S Mode: 51 MPH; P Mode: 38 MPH; A Mode: 51 MPH
I believe this is a game changer from anyone interested in professional drone piloting. The applications are amazing. In addition to collecting stunning footage, both video and photos, this drone can do much more.
- Search and Rescue Operations
- Fire Fighting
- Power Line Inspection
- Solar Collectors
- Wind Turbines
- Bridge Inspection
Pricing of this drone is, as you’d expect, a lot more than any of the traditional drones sold by DJI. It’s difficult at the moment to find an accurate price but from what I can see the base unit, which has no camera or gimbal, can start at $4,600 and depending on the options you choose can run all the way up to $12,000. This is no entry level drone, but it has the potential to change the game for what can be done using unmanned aerial vehicles.
